ARMY JROTC
The mission of JROTC is “to motivate young people to become better citizens”. Army JROTC is devoted to student growth and maturity. JROTC teaches self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride, and it challenges students to uphold these values. JROTC prepares students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of the benefits of citizenship. The results are responsible cadets who are sure of themselves and can think independently.
Captain Hamlin's Biography
Captain Michael Hamlin is the JROTC Senior Army Instructor at Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School. CPT Hamlin was born in Manhattan, New York on 1 July 1968. He graduated from Hoke County High School in Raeford, North Carolina in June 1986. Later, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University in June 2011. He then attended graduate school at Webster University in completing his degree in Human Resource Management and Leadership Management in June 2018.
CPT Hamlin joined the military in 1991. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He then served for three consecutive duty assignments: two in Germany and one in Alaska. CPT Hamlin was commissioned in November 2006 to 2nd Lieutenant at Fort Benning, GA where he held several leadership positions: Platoon Leader, Fire Direction Officer and Executive Officer. CPT Hamlin also served for three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. CPT Hamlin’s successful military career came to an end on 1 April 2015.
Sergeant First Class Woods’ Biography
I am a native of Twin City, Georgia. I graduated from Emanuel County Institute High School in 1986. In January of 1987 I enlisted into the United States Army and served 20 years. During my service I had the privilege of serving two tours in Europe (Germany) as well as a number of duty stations in the US. I attended and graduated all of the required courses which enabled me to reach my current retired rank. I have been a JROTC instructor for 11 years. I started my career at Lower Richland High School then I moved on to Lamar High School and now I have the privilege of teaching here at Wil Lou Gray Opportunity School. I attended the University of Phoenix where I earned a Master’s of Business Administration and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business with a concentration in Management.
